BACK TO ANCESTORS OF HENRY JONES

JONES

DAUGHTERS OF THE

AMERICAN REVOLUTION (DAR)

STATUS

On Hank Jones’ side, way back to the days of the Revolution, Thomas Chew married Mary Wood, who had a son from a previous marriage, Robert Powell, Jr.

That son married Thomas’ niece, Charity Chew, and they had 20 sons and 1 daughter.

The daughter died as a young teenager, but 17 of the boys fought in the Revolutionary War. One of these sons, Samuel, had a son, Abraham, who married Mary Ward.  Mary's father was a blacksmith for the New Jersey Militia. So that’s where the Jones gals get their DAR status.

Still pending is the search for the actual documentation showing Samuel's involvement in the war.
